Two days is how long the Mekong Delta actually takes
A day trip to the Mekong Delta is a glimpse. Two days is an immersion. This overnight tour covers both the upper and lower delta — from the waterways of Cai Be and Tan Phong Island on Day 1, to the early-morning energy of Cai Rang floating market and the community-led experiences of Con Son Island on Day 2.
You’ll sleep in Can Tho, the delta’s largest city, and wake up early enough to see Cai Rang floating market the way it’s meant to be seen — before the sun is fully up and the trading boats are still thick on the water. Along the way: traditional craft workshops, a community-run island, folk cake making, a Khmer pagoda, folk music, and meals cooked and eaten the way locals eat them.

05:30 – 06:00 AM Early Morning Wake-Up
Cai Rang floating market is at its best before sunrise. Your guide meets you at the hotel lobby for the short transfer to the boat pier.
06:00 – 07:30 AM Cai Rang Floating Market
Board your boat for the early morning cruise to Cai Rang — the largest wholesale floating market in the Mekong Delta and one of the last of its kind still operating at genuine commercial scale. Unlike many delta markets that have quieted with urbanization, Cai Rang remains a working wholesale hub: large supplier boats anchor in the river while smaller retail vessels pull alongside to buy and redistribute goods to surrounding villages and towns.
At this hour the market is in full motion — engine sounds, bargaining calls, the smell of river water and ripe fruit. Sample fresh fruit bought directly from a vendor, or try Vietnamese coffee prepared onboard by a floating café. Your guide explains how Cai Rang has survived as a genuine trading market when others have not, and what the future of water-based commerce looks like in the delta.

09:30 AM Boat Transfer to Con Son Island
Board a traditional flat-bottom boat (thuyền bè) for the short river crossing to Con Son — a quiet, lush island in the middle of the Hậu River that has become one of the Mekong Delta's most genuine community-based tourism destinations. The island is not run by a tourism company but by the local residents themselves, who have come together to open their homes, orchards, and kitchens to visitors. Everything here is family-operated and community-linked.
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Con Son Island — Community Experiences
Step ashore and spend the morning in the hands of the island's residents: •
Traditional folk cake making (bánh dân gian): Join a local family in their home kitchen and learn to make one or two of the Mekong Delta's traditional handmade cakes — recipes passed down through generations and rarely found outside a family setting. •
Cốm nổ (puffed rice) making: Watch and participate in the making of crispy puffed rice over an open flame using a traditional hand-cranked technique. Part snack, part spectacle — sample it warm. •
Fruit orchard walk: Wander through the family orchards covering the island — mango, longan, pomelo, star apple, jackfruit, and more depending on the season. Taste what's ripe directly from the tree.
12:00 – 01:00 PM Lunch at a Local Home
Sit down for lunch prepared by the island family — a spread of home-cooked Mekong dishes using ingredients from the garden and the river. Simple, fresh, and entirely genuine.
01:30 PM Return Boat to Can Tho & Depart for Ho Chi Minh City
