This complex was set up by Nguyen Dynasty from 1805 to 1945, and now it’s one of the popular relics of the Hue ancient capital.

Lying on the North bank of “Song Huong” (Perfume River), the citadel palace is actually a large complex that covers an area of 520 ha. It also comprises three individual circles of ramparts, such as Hue Capital Citadel, Royal Citadel and Forbidden Citadel. In fact, it was claimed to guarded by two different sand dunes (Con Hen and Con Da Vien) on Song Huong.

Once getting inside the citadel and start looking into the feudal relics of such big architectural and cultural values, we will love more as it comes to the classic side of Vietnam. Time goes by, which means countless changes have taken place, and the valuable historical and beauty of the nation won’t ever be gone.

All of the buildings have been restored little by little over the years, and it’s very common to detect more restoration work is till taking place here. Though there are some spaces of the site are empty, a lot of things are still available for you to see. You get to experience a lot of history when being here.

Another great part you will encounter soon will be the Nine Deities Cannons lying inside the gate. According to the locals, the bronze cannons here are meant to represent all five elements of Taoism. Besides, you still spot more cannons at other gates around the citadel.
