Visa policy of Vietnam for tourists

Like other countries in the world, Vietnam will require valid visas, which allow tourists to visit the country. However, besides people given visa exemption according to Vietnamese law, citizens from some countries which have come to a unilateral or bilateral exemption agreement with Vietnam are officially exempted from making a visa application. Unilateral visa-free entry to Vietnam

Vietnam unilaterally allows visa-free travel for tourists from Japan, Korea, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Belarus, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, and Spain.

Vietnam Department Immigration legislated on unilateral visa exemption and promulgated Document No.6014/A72-P2, which is related to this subject on June 6th, 2015. According to the policy, nationals of the following countries are eligible to enter Vietnam without visa requirements and stay not for over 15 days: Japan, Korea, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Belarus, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, and Spain. Furthermore, if the citizens from those countries wish to get another 15-day stay of visa exemption entry, they need to wait at least 30 days prior to their next trip.

Bilateral visa-free entry to Vietnam

Vietnam has a bilateral visa-free agreement with 9 ASEAN member states: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, and Singapore.

Tourists with valid ordinary passports from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Singapore and Cambodia are allowed to enter Vietnam without a visa requirement and stay not in excess of 30 days. Meanwhile, Myanmar and Brunei tourists are only allowed to stay for maximum 14 days; Philippine citizens are enabled to have a stay not exceeding 21 days and vice versa.

Another piece of significant information is that citizens with valid diplomatic or official passports from 75 countries are permitted to enter and stay in Vietnam within an allotted amount of time and vice versa (this bilateral agreement has been implemented from March 2015). Some of those countries include Algeria, Brazil, India, Indonesia, North Korea, Russia, Philippines, Romania, Spain, Panama, Peru, Hungary, Ukraine, China, Colombia, Cuba, Iran, Slovenia, Paraguay, France, Bulgaria, Laos, Venezuela, Turkey, Switzerland, and Thailand.
